WordPress is one of the most powerful pieces of website software out there. It’s incredibly powerful and easy to use. So why would you need to employ a wordpress expert?
If you want your website and blog to look like everybody else’s, then you probably don’t! There are some inbuilt themes to make your layout look professional on both a desktop and a mobile, and WordPress’s interface is so intuitive that in a relatively short space of time you can get some pages set up and import some photos.
However, at that point it can become trickier. If you’ve got lots of time and no budget then you may want to spend weeks (or months) learning what you can and can’t do with WordPress. But if you’re running a business your time is probably better spent, well, running your business. So consider employing a wordpress expert when:
You want your website to match your business’s brand
Inserting a logo into a pre-existing theme is one thing. But ensuring that the entire look and feel of the website, the colouring, the design cues and the functionality match your brand is something else entirely. Creating a theme (or even modifying a pre-existing theme) is not something you can learn overnight. Here at ELK we understand PHP, CSS and html – and if you don’t know what those are then you certainly do need a wordpress expert!
You want your website to do more than the bog-standard functions
One of the (many) beauties of WordPress is that there are thousands of plugins to achieve just about anything you can imagine. You could, for example:
- Set up a shop
- Create a membership site
- Create a repository of photos or other downloadable documents
- Create a learning management system (although we wouldn’t recommend that – we are eLearning experts and we would recommend Moodle for that purpose).
But which plugin is the one for you? Which one is proven to work without any bugs (unfortunately there are plugins out there which don’t deliver on their promises). What happens if the plugin needs a little modification to suit your requirements?
If you’re embarking on a new website and have just decided to use WordPress, or you are the owner of a WordPress website and need help then please do get in touch. We are based in Beverley, East Yorkshire (near Hull) so if you are northern based we could arrange a face to face discussion at no obligation. But if you’re further afield don’t worry as in this age of Skype we are able to work with existing customers in continental Europe and America.
